A Romantic Bacchus Sunday Brunch in the Garden

It has been an awfully long time since John and I “officially” celebrated Valentine’s Day. Don’t get me wrong, we are hopelessly in love and frequently do little things for each other all throughout the year from random flower bouquets and sweet texts to much-needed shoulder rubs while binge-watching something one of us hates. But I can honestly say in our 15+ years together we have never gone out on a date for V-Day. That must be why I am thrilled to be attending a Mardi-Gras-themed Valentine’s Day Brunch in the gorgeous New Orleans Botanical Garden.

Being among the financially disabled, I could never normally afford this festive event, but the kind folks at Kitchen in the Garden have gifted John and I tickets! Chef Patrick White will be wowing us with parade-like fare from fried chicken biscuits with honey hot sauce and smoked deviled eggs to king cake bread pudding with strawberry compote. We’ll also be swilling bottomless Mimosa’s and “Mardi Gras Mash” Daiquiri’s while listening to live, local music.

Though I’m jazzed to get out of the house and participate in at least one carnivalistic-like celebration (especially on Bacchus Sunday!), I am a little concerned about the weather, as it’s supposed to be awfully chilly that weekend! We’ll just bundle up and make the best of it.
