House of the week: Cottage on Eliza Street

When I found today’s house, Judy Garland’s voice reverberated through my brain singing “A Cottage for Sale.” Though I’m not mourning a failed relationship per se, I am mourning a love unrequited because I know that this adorable little abode and I will never be together (cue a deep sigh).

Located in Algiers Point less than four blocks from the ferry, this sweet, tiny cottage is built just for two. It’s about twice the size of the apartment I am living in now at a little over 900 square feet and features beautiful hardwood floors, barge board walls, wainscoting, a claw foot tub and a precious front porch.

The best part about the cottage would have to be its location, so close to the Mississippi River, a mere five blocks from The Appetite Repair Shop and three blocks from the Dry Dock Cafe.  Not to mention the overall coolness of the neighborhood and the gorgeous old homes within it. But, listed at $239, 900, it’s a romance that wasn’t meant to be.
