House of the Week: Sidehall Camelback on Coliseum Street

New Orleans’ wretched summer heat is already upon us and it’s not even officially summertime yet. Though I love taking walks with Pippin around my gorgeous neighborhood, my sweet pup turns 17 this year and he’s really slowing down … especially when the heat index is over 90°.  Our long, long walks have recently shortened to a quick jaunt then back into our air-conditioned apartment.

Just the other day while we were making our way around the block, I noticed that one of the houses I regularly covet on Coliseum Street was up for sale. The second thing I did when I got home (the first was sucking down a huge glass of water) was to get on realtor.com to check out the house.

On the inside, it’s as lovely as I imagined. Original heart pine floors, transoms, gorgeous crown molding, a double parlor with beautiful fireplace mantles and cast iron plates, tall ceilings, huge windows, an adorable kitchen … everything I look for in the house of my dreams. Unfortunately, it looks like I’d have to write several bestselling novels just to afford it. Listed at $925,000, it’s likely just another one of my dreams that will never come to fruition.
