House of the Week: Craftsman Cottage on Robert Street

Sometimes, like the chubby face of a newborn or the kind gesture of a stranger, there are houses that make you go “aw!” There’s just something about it that’s so gosh darn cute, you can’t help but sigh while your pupils enlarge and your heart gets just a little bit bigger. That is exactly what happened to me while searching through Realtor.com today when I saw this adorable Craftsman in the Freret neighborhood.

Forget the cute little porch with a light blue door and the adorbs steps with the curling architectural frame. Just go inside! Beautiful hardwood floors, built-in shelves with glass-covered doors in both the front parlor and a cabinet in the kitchen, inset ceiling work and fireplace mantles . . . it’s all just so freaking precious. But the feature that really got my heart all a-flutter is that charming window seat in the dining room! You know it was once part of a table and I can easily visualize how I’d furnish and decorate it! There’s also a huge backyard and another little guest house/study in back. Plus, this house is only 3 1/2 blocks from Freret Street, a booming corridor that sports a huge number of restaurants, bars and coffee shops just waiting for my regular patronage.

The only thing that’s not so cute about this house is the price. The 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage with almost 1300 square feet of living space is listed at $388,000 which is not only out of my reach, but also overpriced in my most humble opinion. What do you think? Does it make you go “aw?”
