Though there are reasons to love all of New Orleans’s neighborhoods, I have a nostalgic sort-of fondness for the Lower Garden District, specifically the area around Coliseum Square Park. Maybe my adoration is due to too many nights spent swilling beer at the Half Moon or Saint, the numerous meals I’ve enjoyed at Juan’s Flying Burrito (my friend Casey took me there back in 2003 for the first time!), or perhaps it’s close proximity to downtown, but I’ve always thought it would be a hip area in which to live.
And hey, would you look at this? Here’s my chance to move into the neighborhood! If I had a couple million to spare (or even $250,000 for a down payment), I would definitely buy this house. Talk about dreamy! It’s a 187 year-old Greek Revival stunner on Camp Street less than two blocks from the park. I am in love with the lacy, intricate iron detailing on the balcony outside, but with this house, it’s the inside that counts. Original everything — ceiling medallions, hard wood floors, pocket doors, floor-to-ceiling windows, fireplace mantles, French doors, transoms, shutters — I am literally in awe. Not to mention the fact that whomever currently lives here (or recently moved out) is either an artist or a patron of the arts (or both!) with gorgeous pieces that just make this house come alive.
Would you pay $1,150,000 for this incredible mansion with 5 bedrooms 4 1/2 bathrooms and 5,264 square feet of living space? You know I would if I could! Maybe they’d let me keep the art?
