John and I were planning on celebrating Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day at a festive brunch in the Botanical Gardens yesterday, but when it was cancelled, we found ourselves at a loss . . . but not for long!

With a quick text and a willingness to wait in line, we scored a mini galette des rois, our favorite kind of king cake, from La Petite Sophie Patisserie (drove all the way to River Ridge at 8:00am on a Saturday morning), and a 9-piece box of Popeye’s fried chicken with red beans, coleslaw and biscuits.

While it wasn’t Chef White’s fried chicken, it was still utterly delicious and totally not keto. It was a small sacrifice to pay to the keto gods for a tasty holiday twofer. Plus, I got another ceramic fève to add to my still small, but growing collection.

Happy Mardi Gras!
