House of the week: Victorian on Belleville St.

April 4, 2016 No Comments

The more I look at houses for sale, the more I am disappointed by the culture-eradicating renovations I discover. Developers and contractors are tearing the heart and soul out of New Orleans’ architecture and it honestly makes me want to weep. While I appreciate some new design, there’s a lot […]

House of the week: Mary Plantation on Hwy 39

February 18, 2016 No Comments

While people are spending millions to live in a 500 sq. ft. flat in Manhattan or a tract home in Northern California, you could have your very own plantation for little over a million. Located in Braithwaite, Louisiana, approximately 22 miles from downtown New Orleans, there is for sale a […]

House of the week: Creole cottage on Royal Street

February 12, 2016 No Comments

Would it be too much to ask my beloved to buy me a house for Valentine’s Day? It would undoubtedly fill me with an overwhelming sense of love, not to mention acting much like a potent aphrodisiac.  “I promise baby, we’ll break in every room!” You think I jest?

House of the week: Double on Scott Street

December 14, 2015 No Comments

All I want for Christmas is a house of my own.  Do you think this year you’ll swing it Santa, help me get a loan? As much as I love to rhyme, I’m sure you’ll find it lame. This is a blog, after all, and not a reindeer game!

House of the week: Cottage on Eliza Street

October 30, 2015 No Comments

When I found today’s house, Judy Garland’s voice reverberated through my brain singing “A Cottage for Sale.” Though I’m not mourning a failed relationship per se, I am mourning a love unrequited because I know that this adorable little abode and I will never be together (cue a deep sigh).

House of the week: Privacy on Patton St.

October 20, 2015 No Comments

Agree or don’t agree, but I believe there’s a certain level of badassery going on when you can hide a 3,000 sq. ft. home so completely that the entrance appears to be part of your neighbor’s property. I discovered this super cool, My Secret Garden-ish abode today during my usual online […]

House of the week: Shotgun on 6th Street

October 7, 2015 No Comments

No matter how hard I try to steer my focus away from house-hunting, there will always be those stray moments when I find myself drawn to a Curbed post or catching myself before I click on realtor.com in my bookmarks. Today I had one of these moments only to find, yet […]

House of the week: Greek Revival on Philip St.

July 13, 2015 No Comments

It seems I will continue to torment myself by searching through long listings of elegant New Orleans-style homes until either I win the lottery, write a best-selling novel or some philanthropic soul becomes empathetic to my misery and gifts me my dream house. What? It could happen! During my latest […]

House of the week: Historic home on Atlantic Ave.

June 17, 2015 No Comments

If I had lots of extra cash and experience restoring homes, I would love to buy this house on Atlantic Avenue in Algiers and bring it back to its former glory. Not only is it on a lot twice as large as the properties that surround it, it has all […]

5 New Orleans Homes I’d Buy If I Were Filthy Rich

May 31, 2015 No Comments

Wallowing in my poverty-stricken misery, I thought a listicle of homes I could never-ever attain would serve as appropriate torture for committing a few oh-so deadly sins; specifically lust, greed and envy. Though I cannot fathom how it would feel to be filthy, stinking rich, I sure know what I […]

House of the week: Shotgun on Flood Street

April 29, 2015 No Comments

Depression has set in and I can’t avoid it. Unless I suddenly write a bestselling novel, win the lotto or have a rich relative die and leave me a fat inheritance, there is no way in hell I’ll ever be able to afford a house in New Orleans. Regardless of […]

House of the week: Condo on Napoleon Avenue

April 22, 2015 1 Comment

My boyfriend John won’t even entertain the idea of buying a condo. When I find a cute half double or a cool apartment in an old home spilling over with character and history, John will completely write it off if there’s a mere mention of the “c” word. But, I […]

House of the week: Shotgun on North Rampart St.

March 30, 2015 No Comments

Have you ever experienced love at first sight? I have, and I can’t stop thinking about it. Yes, I am head-over-heels in love with an object. More specifically, I am in love with a house. This IS my house. This is what I picture when I dream about the perfect […]
